The Oyo State Government has ordered the reopening of schools in Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere, and Olorunsogo local government areas beginning Monday, May 25, 2026, following the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected communities.
The decision comes days after the attack on schools in Ahoro-Esinle community, Oriire Local Government Area, which resulted in the killing of a teacher and the abduction of some pupils.
Speaking on behalf of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), the Chairman, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, said the reopening followed a comprehensive security review conducted after the incident.
Adeniran stated that the state government had strengthened security arrangements across the affected zones through coordinated efforts by security agencies operating under the directives of the Commissioner of Police.
According to him, the safety of pupils and teachers remains a top priority of the government, assuring residents that learning activities can now resume in a safer environment.
He noted that the government would continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with local authorities and community stakeholders to prevent further security breaches.
The OYOSUBEB chairman appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic.
He also assured that the government would continue to provide timely updates on developments relating to security in the affected communities.
