Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The acclaimed Yoruba-language actor’s death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by multiple sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, who announced the news on social media.
“Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life,” Oloketuyi wrote.
The actor’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, also appeared emotional during an Instagram Live session on Sunday, breaking down in tears as she struggled to come to terms with her father’s death.
Fellow actor and filmmaker Saheed Balogun joined the growing tributes, describing the death as deeply painful.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful,” Balogun wrote on Instagram.
Ogogo’s death came just days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly appealed for medical assistance for the veteran actor, who was battling stage-four cancer.
On Monday, August 17, 2026, the sisters took to social media to seek medical advice, financial support and possible treatment options for their father.
Kaira disclosed that doctors had told the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of the actor’s deteriorating condition.
The family subsequently explored alternative treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies, in a desperate effort to save his life.
Ogogo was one of the most recognisable faces in Yoruba Nollywood, earning widespread admiration for his acting talent and his long-standing contribution to the growth and development of indigenous-language cinema in Nigeria.
His death is expected to leave a significant void in the Yoruba film industry, with colleagues, fans and associates already paying tribute to the veteran actor.
