Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has approved the payment of the first phase of the medical expenses of veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu, following her public appeal for financial assistance to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
The intervention was announced on Tuesday by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, in a post on his X handle.
According to Justice, Governor Otti approved the initial payment of the actress’s medical bills after learning of her health condition.
“His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs. Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills,” he wrote.
Despite the governor’s intervention, Justice noted that the payment covered only part of the total medical expenses and appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the actress financially.
“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible you can,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to Governor Otti on behalf of the Nigerian creative industry.
“On behalf of the creative industry, we all thank you immensely, my leader. Ndewo sir,” Justice wrote.
The 62-year-old actress had earlier made an emotional appeal to Nigerians for assistance after revealing that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and urgently needed ₦30 million to undergo three life-saving surgeries.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, Nwosu said her health condition had deteriorated beyond what she could manage financially and appealed to fans, family members and colleagues not to abandon her.
“My people, my fans and my family, I know that you’ve not seen me in circulation for some time. I’ve been hospitalised now for three weeks. Please, the thing has gone beyond my control.
“I need your help. Don’t let me die. I know that you people never forsake me. I’m begging you, my fans and family, don’t let me die because I am going through a lot, as in pain,” she said.
The veteran actress disclosed that she requires three urgent surgeries and urged well-wishers willing to support her treatment to reach out to her management.
Nwosu, one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses, has featured in numerous television dramas and films over the years, earning widespread recognition for her contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Her public appeal has since attracted sympathy from fans and colleagues, with renewed calls for support to enable her receive the remaining treatment she requires.
