The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has expressed deep sorrow over the attack on LA School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esinle, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, which reportedly led to the killing of a teacher and the abduction of some pupils.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 15, 2026, by the Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, the Board described the incident as “a dark and painful moment” for the education sector in the state.
According to the statement, the exact number of abducted pupils was yet to be confirmed as security agencies continued operations in the affected communities to establish full details surrounding the incident.
Adeniran said the Board, in collaboration with the Oyo State Ministry of Education, was working closely with security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the pupils and restore peace to the area.
He disclosed that security operatives, under the direct coordination of the Commissioner of Police, had deployed a tactical response team to the affected communities, while intelligence and operational measures were ongoing.
The OYOSUBEB chairman appealed to parents and residents to remain calm, assuring them that the government would do everything possible to secure the release of the abducted children.
“In the interest of safety, the Board has directed all primary schools in neighbouring communities, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire and Olorunsogo, to immediately vacate their schools until further notice,” the statement added.
The temporary closure, according to him, was aimed at preventing further incidents and allowing security agencies to stabilise the affected areas.
Adeniran also mourned the slain teacher, describing his death as a tragic loss to the education sector and commending his dedication and service.
He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.
The Board reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives and welfare of pupils across the state.
