Another 83 Nigerian nationals have returned to the country from South Africa, arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The returnees departed the O. R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, at 3:10 p.m. aboard South African Airways (SAA) Flight 0060 and arrived in Lagos at 8:30 p.m.
The group comprised 58 adults, 23 children and two infants. They were accompanied by an official escort from the Nigerian Consulate.
The return was coordinated by the Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg and the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, in collaboration with relevant South African authorities.
Officials of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), and other relevant government agencies were on hand at the airport to receive and profile the returnees.
The returnees expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising the welfare and dignity of Nigerians at home and abroad, as well as for the Federal Government’s continued commitment to ensuring the safe and orderly return of Nigerian nationals.
They also commended the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Hon. Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her efforts in facilitating the welfare and safe return of Nigerians in the diaspora.
The returnees further appreciated the Nigerian Consulate General in Johannesburg, the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and other government agencies involved in facilitating their return to Nigeria.
The latest arrival brings another batch of Nigerians safely back home as the Federal Government continues its engagement with relevant authorities on the welfare and protection of Nigerian nationals abroad.
