Veteran Yoruba actor, Olayiwola Rasaq Olasunkanmi, popularly known as Ojopagogo, has emotionally recounted how his fiancée, identified as Iyabo, was allegedly snatched from him by one of his colleagues during a trip to the Republic of Benin.
Speaking during an interview, the actor revealed that Iyabo stood firmly by him during one of the most difficult periods of his life when he was battling illness.
According to him, the lady cared deeply for him and was already preparing to become his wife before the unfortunate incident happened, saying, “A lady stood by me when I was sick. Her name is Iyabo. She was to be my wife.”
Ojopagogo explained that after recovering from the sickness, he travelled to the Republic of Benin for a stage performance and Iyabo decided to accompany him on the journey.
He said the incident that changed his life happened during the trip, explaining, “I naturally care for women. Iyabo was asked to sit on the top of a vehicle. I didn’t like that, so I vacated my seat in the front of the car for her to sit.”
The actor disclosed that upon arriving at their destination for the performance, he was abandoned while some members of the group allegedly left with Iyabo. “We got to where we would act in the Republic of Benin. They left me there. They left with my wife,” he said emotionally.
Ojopagogo added that when he eventually returned home and visited Iyabo’s family house in search of her, her mother denied knowing her whereabouts.
However, he said Iyabo’s elder brother later revealed the shocking truth to him. “The elder brother called me and said, ‘Don’t disturb yourself, my sister has come home and introduced her husband to us. She had left you,” he recalled.
The veteran actor said the heartbreak left him devastated for a long time, revealing, “I wept many times. I would lock myself in my room, crying,” noting that Iyabo’s mother later chased him away from the house.
Despite the painful experience, Ojopagogo said he later transformed the emotional story into a movie script inspired by Iyabo’s betrayal.
