Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded fresh successes in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North-East, neutralising terrorist threats, destroying improvised explosive devices and arresting suspected logistics suppliers linked to insurgent groups.
The military disclosed that the operations, conducted between June 16 and June 19, 2026, formed part of sustained efforts to degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups operating within the theatre.
On June 16, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, working alongside the Quick Reaction Force, responded to intelligence from local residents regarding the planting of improvised explosive devices along the Biu–Buratai Road.
According to military authorities, the troops immediately launched a fighting patrol to the affected area where they discovered five IED cylinders planted by suspected terrorists along the route. The devices were safely detonated by the EOD team without casualties, restoring security along the road.
In another operation on June 17, troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion encountered suspected terrorists along the Miyanti–Ngoshe axis while returning from a picketing assignment in Kirawa.
The troops reportedly came under attack from an unconfirmed number of insurgents riding about 60 motorcycles. The soldiers responded with heavy firepower, forcing the terrorists to retreat towards Miyanti.
Although the number of casualties inflicted on the insurgents could not be immediately ascertained, troops recovered 817 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, three motorcycles, two solar panels, 102 sachets of salt, a motorcycle tyre, two motorcycle tubes and several motorcycle spare parts believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
Meanwhile, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison recorded another breakthrough on June 19 after acting on intelligence regarding terrorist logistics activities.
During a routine stop-and-search operation at the brigade checkpoint, troops intercepted a cyan Volkswagen vehicle with registration number FGF-357-AG and arrested two suspected logistics suppliers linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
The suspects, identified as Mohammed Bukar, popularly known as “Dege,” aged 35, and his apprentice, Iliyasu Abdullahi, 26, were allegedly transporting Premium Motor Spirit and relief materials intended for insurgent elements.
Military authorities said the arrests represented a significant disruption of terrorist supply networks within the region.
Operation HADIN KAI said the recent successes demonstrate the commitment of troops to denying terrorists freedom of movement, dismantling their support structures and safeguarding communities across the North-East.
The military also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that civilian cooperation remains critical to ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
