The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday, June 26, 2026, commissioned the first national headquarters of the Nigerian Red Cross Society in Abuja, describing the organisation as a beacon of hope for vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Senator Tinubu said the Nigerian Red Cross Society has remained committed to serving humanity without discrimination and has consistently demonstrated dedication to alleviating human suffering.
She expressed confidence that the new headquarters would enhance the society’s humanitarian operations and strengthen its impact across the country.
“I am confident that this new office building will further strengthen the Society’s capacity to coordinate its humanitarian activities, enhance operational effectiveness, and deepen its impact across Nigeria,” she said.
The First Lady noted that the activities of the Red Cross extend beyond Nigeria’s borders, adding that the organisation has continued to provide critical services to people affected by disasters, conflicts and other humanitarian emergencies.
“The influence of the activities of the Red Cross Society extends far beyond our shores. Whether providing first aid or responding to disasters, supporting victims of conflict, promoting health and well-being, or providing humanitarian assistance to communities in need, the Society has remained steadfast in its mission of serving humanity without discrimination,” she stated.
Senator Tinubu, who was earlier decorated as the Grand Matron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, commended the leadership, staff, partners and volunteers of the organisation for their dedication and sacrifice.
“Your selfless service continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of countless individuals and families,” she said.
As part of the commissioning activities, the First Lady toured the newly inaugurated facility, including the incident room, where she was briefed on the society’s fully digitised operations and emergency response systems.
In their separate remarks, the President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, and the Head of Country Cluster for the International Federation of the Red Cross, Doris El-Doueihy, commended the efforts of the Federal Government in addressing issues responsible for humanitarian crises in the country.
They also pledged their continued support and commitment to improving the welfare of victims of humanitarian emergencies and making life more bearable for affected communities across Nigeria.
