Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council for approving Phase 1A of the Lagos Green Line Rail Project, describing it as a major step toward transforming transportation in the state.
In a statement, Sanwo-Olu said the rail project marks a significant milestone for Lagos, noting that the Green Line will cover approximately 68 kilometres from Marina to the Lekki Free Trade Zone.
According to the governor, the rail line will feature about 17 stations strategically located across key areas such as Victoria Island, Ajah and the broader Lekki corridor, improving connectivity in one of the state’s fastest-growing regions.
He added that the project is expected to serve up to 500,000 passengers daily at inception, with the capacity to scale up to about one million passengers over time.
The system will also be able to transport up to 35,000 passengers per hour in each direction, significantly reducing travel time and easing congestion on Lagos roads.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the Green Line aligns with his administration’s commitment to enhancing mobility, boosting economic growth, and improving the overall quality of life for residents.
He reaffirmed the state government’s readiness to work with the Federal Government to ensure the successful delivery of the project, describing the approval as a reflection of strong collaboration aimed at meeting the needs of Lagosians.
