The Ọ̀ṣun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the fatal shooting of a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, allegedly attacked by suspected hoodlums in the Itaolokan area of Òṣogbo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, ANIPR, officers received a report of the incident at about 4:00 p.m. and promptly responded to the scene.
Yusuf was reportedly found in a pool of blood and rushed to the Ọ̀ṣun State University Teaching Hospital, Òṣogbo, where medical personnel later confirmed him dead.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred shortly after Governor Ademola Adeleke and his nephew, popular musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, paid a courtesy visit to the Àtáọja of Òṣogbo, Ọba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun.
Police alleged that a suspected notorious thug and ex-convict, Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” attempted to gain access to Davido but was stopped by members of the musician’s security team.
The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members, who temporarily obstructed movement around the palace before eventually dispersing.
The command further alleged that some of the suspected gang members later shot Yusuf as they were leaving the area.
Commissioner of Police (Election), CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the killing and assured residents that all available resources would be deployed to identify and arrest those responsible.
The police appealed to members of the public with useful information about the incident to assist investigators. The command also urged residents to remain calm and refrain from any form of retaliation while investigations continue.
