The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling deforestation and promoting environmental sustainability as it received the first half of the 2026 Geospatial Analysis Report from Research in Saheal Limited.
The report, which assessed the extent of deforestation, illegal mining activities and encroachment on forest reserves across the state, was presented to the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as part of a biannual environmental assessment initiative aimed at strengthening environmental planning and natural resource management.
Receiving the report on behalf of the government, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, said the findings would help the state better understand environmental challenges and formulate practical measures to restore degraded forests, restrict access to illegal mining sites and curb other environmentally harmful activities.
Aderinto disclosed that the ministry was already exploring strategic partnerships and initiatives targeted at restoring forest resources through tree-planting campaigns and other sustainable environmental practices designed to preserve natural resources for future generations.
He reiterated the commitment of the state government to taking decisive action against individuals and groups involved in illegal activities threatening the environment, stressing that environmental protection requires collective efforts from all stakeholders.
The Geospatial Analysis Report was formally presented by the Technical Representative of Research in Saheal Limited, Opoola Olayiwola, who reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting environmental sustainability and responsible resource management through continuous data-driven monitoring, analysis and reporting.
The commissioner commended the organisation for its continued partnership with the state government, describing the report as timely and crucial for effective environmental planning, policy formulation and implementation across Oyo State.
