The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of cocaine concealed in phone chargers and allegedly being trafficked to Saudi Arabia.
The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the development in a post on X on Sunday, warning that drug traffickers were increasingly exploiting ordinary household items to conceal illicit substances.
Babafemi said the items appeared to be ordinary phone chargers on the surface, but NDLEA operatives discovered that cocaine had been concealed inside them.
“On the surface value, these are phone chargers but @ndlea_nigeria officers won’t fall for that. Concealed in there are consignments of cocaine going to Saudi Arabia,” he said.
He said the interception reinforced the agency’s repeated warnings to members of the public against accepting or helping to transport parcels and luggage for other people without properly verifying their contents.
According to Babafemi, traffickers were increasingly taking advantage of people’s desperation or willingness to assist others to move illicit drugs through unsuspecting individuals.
“This is why we keep warning people not to help anyone deliver any parcel or luggage on their face value because of the desperation by traffickers,” he said.
The NDLEA spokesperson urged members of the public to exercise caution when asked to transport packages on behalf of others, noting that seemingly ordinary items could be used to conceal illegal substances.
The agency has continued to intensify efforts to detect and intercept drug trafficking operations involving Nigeria and international destinations.
