The Oyo State Government has declared a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park as part of efforts to strengthen security and maintain public order in the affected communities.
Governor Seyi Makinde approved the curfew, which will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
According to a memorandum issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, residents of the affected local government areas will be required to remain indoors between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. daily.
The government stated that the curfew will initially last for 48 hours, during which security agencies are expected to carry out operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property.
The restriction affects 10 local government areas located around the Old Oyo National Park. They are Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba local government areas.
Oriire Local Government has its headquarters in Ikoyi-Ile, while Orelope is headquartered in Igboho and Irepo in Kisi. Saki West and Saki East have their headquarters in Saki and Ago-Amodu respectively. Atisbo is headquartered in Tede/Ago-Are, while Itesiwaju has its headquarters in Otu.
Others include Iseyin Local Government with headquarters in Iseyin, Olorunsogo with headquarters in Igbeti, and Atiba Local Government with headquarters in Offa-Meta, Oyo.
The state government did not immediately provide details on the specific security situation that necessitated the curfew but urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and comply with the directive in the interest of public safety.
