The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Mrs Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following an intensive investigation that involved technical tracking, forensic analysis, and intelligence-led operations.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni disclosed the development during a press briefing at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
According to the police, the case was reported on June 21, 2026, when officers at Owode-Egba Police Station received information about suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence. Investigators who responded to the scene discovered signs of forced entry and found the security house locked.
After gaining access to the premises, detectives discovered the lifeless body of Pelumi Adetayo, 38, inside the security house, while Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle was missing from the compound, prompting suspicion that robbery was linked to the double murder.
The Command subsequently launched a comprehensive investigation involving intelligence gathering and technical tracking. On June 22, detectives successfully traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330. Although the vehicle’s ignition key and registration plates had been removed, investigators recovered the concealed registration plate from beneath one of the seats, enabling them to confirm ownership.
A major breakthrough came through the forensic examination of a handwritten note allegedly left behind at the crime scene. Police said the analysis provided crucial investigative leads that assisted detectives in identifying and tracking the suspects.
The principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. Further operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
According to the police, Philip confessed to participating in the murder and admitted recruiting the two other suspects. He allegedly told investigators that he orchestrated the attack due to grievances stemming from his previous employment as a security guard for the deceased.
The suspect reportedly stated that the attack was intended to “teach her a lesson.”
Police investigations indicate that the suspects carried out the attack on the afternoon of June 20. They allegedly overpowered security guard Pelumi Adetayo and used him to gain access to the residence before attacking Madam Oyesiku. Investigators said the security guard was later killed during the incident.
Following the killings, the suspects allegedly fled with the victim’s Lexus RX 330, which was later recovered through intelligence-driven operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
The police also recovered several exhibits during follow-up searches linked to the suspects, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen, and other items considered relevant to the investigation.
Commissioner Ojajuni emphasized that despite the confessional statements and evidence recovered, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law. He added that investigations are continuing to strengthen the case and ensure the diligent prosecution of everyone connected to the crime.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” the Commissioner said.
The three suspects remain in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.
