Angry teachers from Ogbomosho on Monday, May 18, 2026, stormed the streets in protest over the invasion of three schools in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State by suspected Fulani terrorists, who abducted 39 students, including kindergartners, and seven teachers.
The affected schools are LA Primary School and Community Grammar School in Ahoro-Esinele, as well as First Baptist Nursery and Primary School located within the Baptist Church premises in Yawota.
The protesting teachers, who were seen marching through major roads, carried placards with inscriptions such as: “Gone but not forgotten,” “Noble teacher gone too soon,” “Their death demands action,” “Free our people,” “Slain for the crime of teaching,” “No teacher should die at work,” “Teachers’ lives matter,” and “Killed at their duty post.”
The protesters demanded the immediate release of their abducted colleagues and students, urging relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure their freedom from captivity.
As they marched while singing protest songs, the teachers chanted: “Release our colleagues,” “Free our students,” “Enough is enough,” “We are tired,” and “No teacher, no nation.”
One of the protesting teachers said the demonstration was aimed at drawing attention to the growing insecurity facing schools and rural communities in the area.
“We are teachers in Ogbomosho protesting against kidnapping in our schools and villages. Last Friday, terrorists stormed Ahoro-Esinele and kidnapped seven teachers and about 40 students. Up till now, we do not know where they are,” the teacher said.
The teacher appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde, security agencies, local hunters, Agbekoya vigilantes, Amotekun operatives, and the police to intensify rescue efforts.
“We are asking all teachers to join this protest because nobody knows who the next victim will be,” the teacher added.
A female protester also called on the government to provide adequate security for schools across the state to prevent further attacks on teachers and students.
