Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has formally exited the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to months of uncertainty surrounding his political future.
In a letter dated April 10, 2026, and addressed to his ward chairman in Ondo West Local Government Area, Mimiko said he was stepping away from the party for personal reasons after a long period of reduced involvement in its activities.
He explained that his absence from active participation had prompted conversations about where he stood, making it necessary to clearly state his position.
The former governor said the decision followed a period of reflection and consultations, stressing that it was not driven by any dispute or disagreement within the party. He maintained that he holds no grudges and wished the PDP well going forward.
Mimiko also noted that his departure from the party does not affect his interest in national issues, adding that he would continue to engage with others who share his views on governance and democracy.
A former Chief Press Secretary to the ex-governor, Eni Akinsola, confirmed that the resignation letter had been submitted but did not give further details.
His exit comes amid growing political realignments in Ondo State and follows his recent meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. For many observers, the move only formalises a shift that had already been taking shape.
Several of Mimiko’s longtime associates had earlier left the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC), where they became part of the political structure that produced Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
