The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians to celebrate the country’s achievements and promote its positive image, saying the nation’s success stories should receive as much attention as its challenges.
Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal during a visit to two prominent Nigerians in the United Kingdom, Councillor Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Councillor Rosaline Ogunro, the newly sworn-in Mayor of Islington.
She described Adegoke’s emergence as Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, the first person from an ethnic minority background to occupy the position since the council was established in 1889, as a remarkable achievement that reflects the resilience, leadership and excellence of Nigerians in the diaspora.

During a separate visit to Mayor Ogunro, Dabiri-Erewa congratulated her on her election and commended her for flying Nigeria’s flag high through public service.
In her remarks, Ogunro thanked the NiDCOM boss for the visit and encouraged Nigerians living abroad to continue projecting a positive image of the country wherever they reside.
The NiDCOM chairman also celebrated the academic accomplishments of two outstanding Nigerian medical graduates abroad.
She praised Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University in Russia with an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.90 out of 5.00, and Dr. Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and overall best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, the achievements of the two graduates demonstrate the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, adding that such successes continue to enhance the country’s reputation on the international stage.
She commended all four Nigerians for making the nation proud and urged other Nigerians in the diaspora to pursue excellence while serving as worthy ambassadors of the country.
Dabiri-Erewa stressed that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately highlight the country’s successes and recognise the positive contributions of its citizens across the world.
She also noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing wide-ranging reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable economic growth and national development.
The NiDCOM boss called on Nigerians in the diaspora to continue supporting the country’s development through investments, professional expertise, skills and international networks.
She reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to identifying, engaging and celebrating exceptional Nigerians abroad whose achievements continue to strengthen the country’s image globally.
