The University of Ibadan (UI) has introduced new guidelines governing the collection of Statements of Result and academic certificates by its graduates, with penalties for documents not collected within stipulated periods.
The new guidelines were contained in a Special Release dated September 15, 2026, signed by the university’s Registrar, G. O. Saliu.
Under the new policy, graduates are required to collect their Statements of Result (SOR) within six months from the date they are notified that the documents are ready.
The university said graduates who fail to collect their Statements of Result within the six-month period will be required to pay a non-collection penalty of N2,500 before the documents are released.
The institution also clarified that a Statement of Result would be valid for two years from the date of issuance.
According to the university, the Statement of Result serves as an interim document pending the collection of the certificate, which remains the official and permanent evidence of a graduate’s qualification.
Graduates are therefore expected to collect their certificates within the two-year validity period of their Statements of Result.
The university said the inscription, “Valid for Two (2) Years from the Date of Issuance,” would appear on the Statement of Result.
The institution further stated that certificates would be available for collection from the date of the Convocation Ceremony until one year thereafter, subject to payment of the prescribed statutory fee of N7,500 for certificate issuance and collection.
However, certificates not collected within the initial one-year period will attract additional non-collection penalties.
Graduates who collect their certificates after one year but not exceeding five years will be required to pay N25,000, while those who delay collection beyond five years but not exceeding 10 years will pay N50,000.
The university warned that certificates remaining uncollected beyond 10 years would be liable to be shredded.
It emphasised that the applicable non-collection penalties are separate from the statutory N7,500 fee for the issuance and collection of certificates.
The University of Ibadan advised all graduates and other relevant stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the new guidelines and ensure compliance with the stipulated collection periods.
