A Russian drone struck a Kyiv-to-Warsaw passenger train near the Polish border on Sunday, causing damage to the locomotive but leaving all 206 passengers unharmed.
A second train travelling nearby, and carrying several senior European figures, was also evacuated after Ukrainian authorities alerted passengers to the drone attack in the area.
Among those reportedly aboard the chartered train were former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt, alongside other European officials, diplomats and security figures.
The train was travelling from Kyiv towards Poland when it was stopped and passengers were instructed to evacuate as a precaution. The evacuation was reportedly lifted after the immediate drone threat had passed.
The incident occurred close to the route used by the Kyiv-Warsaw passenger service, whose locomotive was struck by a Russian drone earlier that morning.
The attacks occurred near Ukraine’s border with Poland, a key route for the movement of military and humanitarian assistance from Europe into Ukraine.
Polish authorities said the attacks did not violate Polish airspace.
