A prominent Political Scientist and former Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan, Professor Emmanuel Remi Aiyede, has been elected as the 21st President of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA).
Professor Aiyede succeeds Professor Hassan Saliu of the University of Ilorin, who completed his tenure as president of the association.
The election was held during the Business Session of the NPSA’s 35th National Conference, which took place from June 9 to 11, 2026. The electoral process was supervised by an electoral committee chaired by Professor Alade Fawole, a former lecturer in the Department of International Relations at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and currently a member of the Department of Political Science at the University of Ilesa, Osun State.
The emergence of Professor Aiyede marks the beginning of a new leadership phase for the association, which serves as the umbrella body for political scientists, scholars and researchers across Nigeria.
Alongside the newly elected president, members of the National Executive Committee were also elected to oversee the affairs of the association for the new term.

Participants at the conference expressed confidence in the new leadership, noting that the association remains a critical platform for advancing research, policy engagement and scholarly discourse on governance, democracy and development in Nigeria.
Professor Aiyede is widely respected for his contributions to Political Science scholarship, and his election is expected to further strengthen the association’s role in promoting academic excellence and evidence-based policy discussions in the country.
