The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reported a series of successful operations in Benue, Kaduna and Anambra states, including the repelling of a large-scale bandit attack, the rescue of four kidnapped victims and the arrest of a suspected armed robbery and kidnapping gang member.
In Benue State, combined teams of the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Tactical and Conventional Police operatives successfully repelled an attack by armed bandits on Ayilamo Community on September 10, 2026.
According to the police, the operatives engaged the attackers and forced them to retreat into the forest after inflicting heavy casualties on the bandits.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Makurdi, is investigating the incident.
In Kaduna State, police operatives on September 10 rescued a man and his two sons who had been abducted by armed assailants.
The operatives reportedly pursued the abductors and engaged them in a gun duel, forcing the criminals to abandon their victims and flee.
The three victims were rescued unharmed and subsequently reunited with their family, while the SCID, Kaduna, commenced investigation into the incident.
Similarly, on September 12, police operatives conducting a search-and-rescue operation in Kaduna State engaged armed assailants in a gun battle following the abduction of a 60-year-old woman.
The police said the assailants fled during the confrontation, abandoning the victim, who was rescued.
She was taken to a hospital for medical attention before being reunited with her family.
Meanwhile, in Anambra State, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested a suspected member of a criminal gang linked to kidnapping and armed robbery.
The suspect was arrested on September 11 following credible intelligence received by the police.
The police said the suspect confessed to his involvement and provided useful information that could assist investigators in apprehending other members of the gang and recovering firearms.
The operations are part of ongoing efforts by the police to disrupt criminal networks, rescue kidnapped victims and strengthen security across affected communities.
