A Nigerian based in the United Kingdom, Richard Edoki, has been honoured by the Devon and Cornwall Police Positive Action Team for his contribution to community engagement and positive social change in Cornwall.
Edoki received the recognition as part of the police force’s annual celebration of community leaders, volunteers, ambassadors and partner organisations whose efforts have helped strengthen relationships between the police and diverse communities.
The award recognises individuals whose lived experiences, platforms and authentic voices have inspired others, supported positive change and contributed to the force’s broader efforts to build relationships, encourage dialogue and create a policing service in which more people feel represented.
Edoki was specifically recognised for his use of conversation, storytelling and advocacy to build trust, confidence and engagement across Cornwall’s diverse communities.
He is a volunteer broadcaster with CHBN Radio, a community and hospital radio station based in Cornwall, where he hosts “African Vibe With RichyBongo,” a programme dedicated to showcasing African culture and heritage to Cornish audiences.
Through the programme and his wider community engagement, Edoki has provided a platform for cultural exchange and greater understanding of African communities in Cornwall.
His recognition by the Devon and Cornwall Police Positive Action Team highlights the role of community volunteers and media practitioners in fostering dialogue, strengthening social cohesion and helping public institutions connect more effectively with diverse communities.
The award also underscores the growing contribution of members of the Nigerian and wider African diaspora to community development and intercultural engagement in the United Kingdom.
