The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area have been rescued, insisting that efforts to secure their release are still ongoing.
In a statement issued by the Command PRO, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Friday, May 22, 2026, the Command said security agencies were intensifying operations to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those behind the abduction.
The police described as false the rumour currently circulating on social media and other platforms that the victims had regained freedom, urging residents to disregard such claims.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that the abducted students, pupils, and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act,” the statement read.
The Command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by verifying information before sharing it.
According to the police, the spread of fake news and misinformation could create unnecessary panic, heighten tension, and distract security personnel from ongoing rescue operations.
The Command reassured residents of Oyo State that verified updates would be made available as developments unfold.
