The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, April 13, 2026, has adopted the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced at a state strategic caucus meeting presided over by the state chairman of the party, Yemi Sanusi, and held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta.
In attendance at the meeting were former governors Chief Olusegun Osoba, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Isiaka, and serving and former members of the state House of Assembly and National Assembly.
The annointment of the 56-year-old astute politician was said to unite the party and respect the zoning tradition that has kept Ogun West from producing a governor since 1976.
Yayi, a chartered accountant and Senate Appropriations chair, said that he would carry everyone along in his administration noting that fairness will be one of the pillars of his government.
In a swift reaction, GNI Isiaka said that he would respect the decision of the party, pointing out that he would work for the victory of YAYI in the forthcoming governorship election.
