The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has called on elders in Oyo State to intervene over alleged attacks on opposition members following the reported killing of an All Progressives Congress (APC) member in Ibadan.
The organisation urged Governor Seyi Makinde and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, to caution their supporters against violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, the campaign organisation condemned what it described as a series of attacks on opposition figures in the state over the past two weeks.
According to the statement, an APC member in Ward 6, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, identified as Ridwan and popularly known as Paul Moor, was allegedly macheted to death on Friday for defecting from the APM to the APC.
The organisation said the deceased was killed a day before his 35th birthday, describing the incident as disturbing and unacceptable.
SSACO also cited alleged attacks on the wife of Senator Alli, Alhaja Tawakalit Alli, during a free medical outreach programme she organised, as well as an attack on Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, the APC candidate for Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, during a campaign.
It further alleged that the campaign train of Hon. Remi Oseni, the APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, was attacked on the same day.
The organisation also reported an attack on the campaign team of Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, the Accord Party governorship candidate, during a campaign at Molete, Ibadan.
Describing the reported incidents as anti-democratic, SSACO said political differences should not deprive Nigerians of their constitutional rights to freedom of association and expression.
It called on Makinde and Adekanmbi to prevail on their supporters to desist from violence, stressing that Oyo State belongs to all its residents, irrespective of political affiliation.
The organisation further appealed to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the alleged killing and attacks, identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
“ Oyo State people deserve a peaceful campaign. And Senator Alli will sustain his issue-based campaign throughout this period. We urge the APM to take a cue from us,” the statement said.
SSACO also urged political leaders and stakeholders across the state to work towards preventing further violence as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
