Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 101-year-old great-grandmother, Esther Ogunmabo, with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in small sachets for sale in Ilisan, Ogun State.
Ogunmabo reportedly told NDLEA operatives that she turned to selling cannabis after fire destroyed her provisions shop, leaving her without her previous means of livelihood.
According to the agency, the centenarian also disclosed that one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days, which she then sold in small quantities to locals.
The NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying Ogunmabo was arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, during the agency’s ongoing operations against illicit drug trafficking across the country.
Babafemi said the woman was found with retail sachets of skunk weighing 90 grammes.
The statement quoted Ogunmabo as telling operatives that she resorted to the illicit trade after her provisions shop was razed by fire.
She allegedly added that her daughter arranged regular supplies of the substance from Lagos every four days for her to sell in bits.
Following the arrest, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.), directed that Ogunmabo be granted bail and placed on counselling because of her age.
Babafemi, however, said the woman’s daughter had also been arrested in connection with the alleged cannabis supply.
The arrest formed part of the NDLEA’s continuing nationwide crackdown on illicit drug trafficking and distribution.
