The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), on Friday, August 19, 2022, revoked the operating licenses of 52 broadcasting organisations in Nigeria, ordering the affected organisations to shut down immediately.
The Commission revoked licenses of the broadcast media organisations due to the failure to renew their licenses, of which the Federal Government aimed to generate N2.66billion.
The Director-General of the Commission, Balarabe Ilelah instructed all the affected organisations to shut down within 24 hours.
However, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condemned the decision of NBC, describing the action as reckless and ill-timed.
The affected stations are:
