The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has accused supporters of the Action Peoples Party (APM) of attacking two members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Ibadan North Local Government Secretariat and has called on the party’s governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, to caution his supporters.
The organisation made the allegation following an incident on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, involving two APC members, Abiola Abulesowo and Abanise Olanrewaju, who were reportedly assaulted after accompanying a newly registered voter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office at the local government secretariat.
According to the victims, the incident occurred at about 1pm when some suspected APM supporters allegedly confronted them over their presence at the secretariat.
Recounting their experience, Abulesowo said the attackers challenged them for entering the premises despite being members of the APC, arguing that the secretariat was under the leadership of the APM, which is the ruling party in Oyo State.
He said they responded that the secretariat belonged to all Nigerians, irrespective of political affiliation, and explained that their visit was not politically motivated.
However, Abulesowo alleged that the confrontation quickly degenerated into physical violence, with the attackers slapping and punching them.
“We tried to protect ourselves but they were many. We had to run. Yet they pursued us. While we thought we were already escaping, we landed in the hands of PMS thugs at Bus Stop who took over the beating,” he said.
He further alleged that the attackers tore their clothes and subjected them to public embarrassment because of their membership of the APC.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, SSACO condemned the alleged attack and called on Adekanmbi and Governor Seyi Makinde to caution their supporters against acts of violence.
The organisation warned against what it described as the use of government influence to intimidate opposition members and other residents of Oyo State.
Describing the incident as part of what it called an emerging pattern of attacks against opposition members in the state, SSACO said political disagreements should not be allowed to degenerate into violence.
“This condemnable act is another incident in an ugly trend of muscling the opposition in Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership.
“We understand that the loss of popularity is eating up Governor Makinde and Hon. Adekanmbi. Yet there is absolutely no reason to visit violence on opposition members in our state,” the statement said.
The organisation urged Makinde and Adekanmbi to embrace peaceful political engagement and focus on issues rather than attacks on political opponents.
It also called on the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to investigate the incident, identify those responsible and ensure they face the law.
“The SSACO calls on the Commissioner of Police to fish out these hoodlums and make them face the law. Oyo State belongs to us all, and no one should use government power to prevent opposition members from living a peaceful life,” the statement added.
As of the time of issuing the statement, SSACO did not indicate whether the alleged attack had been formally reported to the police.
