Former Communications Minister, Barr. Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu, has declared that he will no longer contest elective office, saying his involvement in active electoral politics is gradually coming to an end.
Shittu made the declaration in an interview with PrimeStar News Online, while explaining his decision to shift his attention away from electoral contests.
According to him, he is now more interested in issues concerning Muslim rights, education and the propagation of Islam.
The former minister said he had already spent a considerable part of his life in public service and politics and did not intend to return to the ballot.
Shittu said his decision, however, does not mean he would withdraw from public affairs. Rather, he intends to continue contributing through advocacy, writing, legal knowledge and other activities.
He also disclosed that he has written several books and described himself as having a “second address” and even a “third address”, suggesting that he has other avenues through which he can remain productive outside elective politics.
His declaration comes against the background of his earlier ambition to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election, an ambition he said he eventually abandoned.
