President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the renaming of the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna in honour of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as one of the architects of modern democratic Nigeria.
The President announced while paying tribute to prominent figures who contributed to Nigeria’s democratic evolution and national development.
According to Tinubu, the Federal Government has approved the revitalisation and renaming of the completed Institute of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna, which will now be known as the General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Geological Sciences and Engineering Technology.
The President said the decision was taken in recognition of Yar’Adua’s enduring contributions to national unity, democratic development and his vision of fostering partnerships across the country.
“Among the architects of modern democratic Nigeria, we honour General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua for his vision of national partnership,” Tinubu said.
He noted that the institution would serve as a lasting tribute to the late military officer and statesman, whose role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape continues to be acknowledged across generations.
The renaming, according to the President, reflects the government’s commitment to preserving the legacies of individuals who played significant roles in the country’s democratic journey while promoting excellence in science, engineering and technological education.
The newly named university is expected to focus on geological sciences, engineering and technology-related disciplines, building on the foundation of the Institute of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna.
