A political showdown is brewing in Ogun State as Senator Gbenga Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun move onto a collision course over the Ogun East Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two influential figures in the state’s political landscape have openly signaled their intentions to contest for the same position, setting the stage for a high-stakes battle within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Senator Daniel, the incumbent representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, has already formalised his ambition by picking up the party’s nomination and expression of interest forms. Announcing his decision, he said, “Today, I picked up my nomination and expression of interest forms as I seek to return to the Nigerian Senate, continuing my efforts to provide effective and responsive representation for the people of Ogun East Senatorial District under the platform of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.”
On the other hand, Governor Abiodun has publicly declared his intention to vie for the same senatorial seat after completing his tenure in office next year. In a video that has since gone viral, the governor confirmed his plan to contest, effectively setting up a direct political contest with the incumbent.
With both men commanding significant political structures and loyal followings, their rivalry is expected to reshape the dynamics of the Ogun East race, leaving party stakeholders and the electorate to ultimately decide who emerges victorious.
