President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a strong endorsement of the governor’s leadership and development agenda.
In a statement issued on Sunday, June 21, 2026, the President praised the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully during the election and for expressing confidence in Governor Oyebanji at the ballot box.
Tinubu also commended security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process, which he said contributed to the peaceful conduct of the poll.
The President urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sustain efforts aimed at conducting free, fair and credible elections as the country prepares for the Osun State governorship election in August and the 2027 general elections.
According to the President, Oyebanji’s re-election marks a historic milestone, making him the first governor in Ekiti State to secure consecutive re-election victories.
Tinubu noted that the governor’s first term recorded achievements in infrastructure development, agriculture, youth empowerment, education, healthcare and rural development under the administration’s BAO agenda.
He said the renewed mandate reflected the people’s confidence in continuity, stability and people-focused governance in the state.
The President, however, advised Governor Oyebanji to be magnanimous in victory and ensure inclusive governance by carrying all residents of the state along as he begins a new four-year term.
He also commended other candidates who participated in the election, saying they had exercised their democratic rights and should now support the governor in the interest of the state’s development.
Tinubu reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Government to working closely with the Ekiti State Government to deliver more democratic dividends and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President further prayed for wisdom, strength and good health for Governor Oyebanji as he continues to serve the people of Ekiti State.
