Why Blame ASUU?
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsappTelegram the story

Are you a student of Nigeria tertiary institution and you are getting it wrong about ASUU over the struggle for education stability? This is an opportunity to read and understand the reason why ASUU keep going on strike and why they still need to go on strike.

Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) is one of the bodies in Nigerian universities which many Nigerians believe are fighting for selfish benefit and also jeopardizing the education system of Nigeria.

Federal Government has been blackmailing ASUU through the media making it difficult for Nigerians to know the purpose and mission of ASUU, also causing confusion and commotion among people and also to draw sympathy from the unsuspecting public.

ASUU has been patient since 2009 after the Federal Government signed a Memorandum of Action (MOA) with ASUU but till today the Federal Government has still not yet implement the agreement.

The Federal Government is trying to neglect its duties in funding tertiary institution. It wants our federal institutions to be dilapidated, just the way our public primary and secondary School are not taking care of.

As of 2021, only 5.6% of Nigeria’s budget is allocated to the education sector, and you are blaming ASUU for fighting with the Federal Government in order to increase the rate of education budget?

As a Nigeria Student, can you show us any substantial transformation or progress in your school? If not for the fight of ASUU and other bodies’ fight for TETFUND before it was done by the Federal government, do you think you will have enough facilities and building in your school? ASUU is still defending the education of the common man, even when they are still accused of selfish interest.

The salary of lecturers are believed to be the highest paid compared to others. A senior lecturer in Udus is collecting 156,000 Naira as salary and a chairman of a local government or an house of assembly is collecting millions of Naira. Is this not a shame to Nigeria’s education, a country where a politician is superior to a teacher or lecturer?.

December 2021, President Muhammad Buhari at a meeting with Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) led by the co-chairs, the Sultan of Sokoto and the President of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Ayokunle pleaded with ASUU to shelve their strike and the President promised to honour the agreement between Federal Government and ASUU.

ASUU is still respecting the Federal Government for not going on strike but the Federal Government deceived the religious leaders and ASUU. Is this not a reason for you to believe that the Federal Government is our enemy?

When public primary teachers goes for a strike, do you hear about it? Definitely NO, because they have demolished the voice of the public teachers and that is how they are trying to do for our lecturers and ASUU has been the only bodies fighting for us. Imagine the condition of our public university without ASUU. Life would have been difficult for we the students.

When our leaders prefer to send their children overseas for degree and our lecturers’ children are in the same school with us, if they don’t want good for us that simply means they don’t want good for their children.

Federal Government is loosing billions of naira to IPPIS and ASUU is not under a party when they would allow corrupt politicians to regulate them. UTAS has been established in order to check the credibility of lecturers and to supervise the salary given to them.

A lot of misconception on lecturer that lecture in two or more university and students don’t understand why the system was established. No junior lecturer can lecture in two university unless he has been specialized in some field and therefore he is eligible to visit some university who have no specialized lecturer in that field in order to lecture them.

Can you just think of the future of Nigeria’s Federal University when the population of private university is increasing and these universities are owned by our Nigeria leaders?

Just imagine, if government failed to fulfill their promise, how will you survive with no internet connection, low infrastructure and even your tuition fee?

Federal government is planning to make education expensive so that the common man like I and you will not have the privilege to go to university.

Let’s think, Federal government is our enemy not ASUU.

Aluta continua, Victoria Ascertain….
