The 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members rescued four days after they were abducted in Imo State have been taken to a hospital for medical assessment and necessary treatment.
The victims were rescued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, following sustained search-and-rescue operations by the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
They were abducted on October 1, 2026, before security operatives located and rescued them at Amakohia Ubi Village in Imo State.
Following their rescue, the prospective corps members were taken for medical assessment as authorities moved to ensure that they receive the necessary care.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in a statement on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, confirmed that the rescue operation was carried out in collaboration with sister security agencies.
While the force did not disclose details of the condition of the victims or whether any injuries were sustained during their captivity, it said the rescued youths had been taken for medical attention.
Meanwhile, security agencies have commenced efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
The police said coordinated operations involving the force and other security agencies were continuing in an effort to track down all persons connected with the crime and bring them to justice.
The successful rescue brings an end to the four-day ordeal of the prospective corps members, whose abduction had raised concerns among their families and other stakeholders.
