The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeniyi Benjamin, for allegedly operating as a quack medical practitioner and running an unlicensed medical facility in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
Benjamin was arrested on October 2, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. by operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit following intelligence received about activities at Life Is Good Hospital, located in the Olodo area of the city.
According to the police, operatives who visited the facility found the suspect attending to patients and administering treatments, particularly for fertility-related conditions, despite allegedly not being a qualified medical doctor.
The police said a search of the facility led to the recovery of several items, including two weighing scales, four Quantum Magnetic Resonance Body Analysers, a stethoscope, a large carton of assorted medicines and specimen bottles.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly admitted that he had been practising medicine without the requisite qualifications or licence for about seven years.
The police said Benjamin also disclosed that he specialised in fertility-related treatments, which he had been administering to patients at the facility.
The Command expressed concern over the potential danger posed by the activities of unqualified persons offering medical services, particularly in sensitive areas such as fertility treatment.
The police therefore urged residents to verify the professional qualifications and registration status of individuals offering medical services before entrusting them with their health or that of their relatives.
The Command also called on members of the public to report suspicious medical facilities or individuals presenting themselves as medical practitioners without verifiable credentials to the police or appropriate regulatory authorities.
It said timely reports could help prevent unsuspecting members of the public from falling victim to unqualified practitioners.
The police disclosed that investigation into the matter was ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities and establish whether other individuals were involved in the operation of the facility.
The Command said appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law upon completion of the investigation.
The Oyo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and said it would continue to work with relevant regulatory agencies and members of the public to identify and address activities capable of putting residents’ health and safety at risk.
