The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged murder of a 26-year-old man, Kehinde Asimiyu, following a fatal altercation at Olodo Garage in Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as Taiwo Babarinde and Ishola Semiu, are currently in police custody, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
The Police Public Relations Office, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement, saying the incident was reported to the command on November 1, 2026.
According to the statement, Babarinde allegedly stabbed Asimiyu with a broken bottle following an altercation between them at Olodo Garage.
The incident reportedly came to the attention of the deceased’s family after an unidentified motorcycle rider arrived at their residence to inform them of the attack.
Police operatives, accompanied by a patrol team, subsequently mobilised to the scene, while the victim was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation, while photographs were taken as part of preliminary investigative procedures.
The command said Babarinde was suspected of inflicting the fatal injury, while Semiu was arrested over his alleged involvement in the incident.
Meanwhile, the killing reportedly triggered unrest at Olodo Police Outpost, nearly resulting in a breakdown of law and order.
The situation was further compounded by reports of threats from hoodlums, prompting the police command to deploy additional security personnel to the area.
The reinforcement involved the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other local law enforcement agencies.
The command said the joint security operation had restored normalcy, adding that security personnel would maintain their presence in the area to prevent further disturbances and protect residents.
In a related development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to engage community stakeholders to address the situation and prevent a recurrence.
Acting on the directive, the Area Commander held a strategic meeting with representatives of the Local Council Development Area (LCDA), leaders of tricycle and motorcycle operators, and youth leaders.
The meeting focused on finding practical solutions to the crisis, improving communication with security agencies and promoting peaceful coexistence among residents and other stakeholders.
The command warned individuals and groups against fomenting trouble, inciting violence or exploiting the incident to destabilise the area, stressing that anyone threatening public peace would be dealt with decisively.
Olugbenga urged residents of Olodo and its environs to remain calm, shun violence and embrace dialogue in resolving disagreements.
He also called on members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information, assuring them of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
