The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected male drug dealer, identified as Rilwan, in the Apata area of Ibadan.
The suspect was arrested at about 8:00 a.m. on September 11, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the Command on suspected illicit drug activities in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Command, surveillance operatives attached to the Iyaganku Area Command acted on the intelligence and commenced targeted operations which led to the arrest of the suspect.
The police said a quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, a white crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine and other suspected dangerous drugs were recovered from the suspect.
Rilwan, who is said to be an indigene of the Apata area of Ibadan, is currently in police custody and cooperating with investigators.
The Command said preliminary investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the suspected drugs, establish the full extent of the suspect’s involvement in the illicit drug trade and identify other persons who may be connected to the activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to intensify intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
Olugbenga described illicit drugs as a significant catalyst for various forms of crime and criminality, stressing that the police would continue to target and disrupt their supply chains.
The Commissioner also assured residents that the Command would strengthen intelligence gathering and proactive policing as part of efforts to prevent crime and protect communities across Oyo State.
The suspect is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of preliminary investigation.
The police urged members of the public to continue providing credible and actionable information that could assist security agencies in tackling crime and criminality across the state.
