The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Ojo, over the alleged vandalism and theft of house-wiring cables valued at approximately N2.692 million in Ogbomoso.
The suspect was arrested at about 5:30 a.m. on September 21, 2026, by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to the Ogbomoso Base during an anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street, Ogbomoso.
According to the police, the operatives accosted Ojo while he was allegedly in possession of a sack containing house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction within Ogbomoso Township.
The Command said preliminary interrogation following his arrest led to a confession in which the suspect allegedly disclosed that he vandalised the cables with an accomplice identified as Warris, who is currently at large.
Ojo also allegedly told investigators that the cables were removed from an uncompleted building opposite Akala House in Ogbomoso.
Acting on the information, police operatives visited the location and contacted the owner of the property, Salaudeen Rasaq.
The police said Rasaq assessed the damage and estimated the value of the cables vandalised and removed from his building at N2,692,000.
The Command said investigation is ongoing, with efforts being intensified to arrest Warris and identify other persons allegedly involved in the criminal chain, particularly those who receive and dispose of vandalised cables.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting public and private infrastructure across Oyo State and urged members of the public to provide actionable information on the activities of cable vandals, thieves and criminal receivers.
