The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state as part of activities marking this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Day.
The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, and made available by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Media, Dr Suliaman Olanrewaju.
The government said the decision was in recognition of the contributions of teachers to the development of the state’s education sector and human capital.
According to the statement, the administration considers teachers a critical component of its efforts to improve the quality of teaching and learning in Oyo State.
The work-free day, the government explained, would enable teachers to participate fully in programmes and activities organised to commemorate the NUT Day.
It added that the occasion would also provide an opportunity for teachers to reflect on developments in the education sector, assess progress made so far and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
The government said the declaration was consistent with its commitment to improving the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers across the state.
It further reaffirmed its determination to sustain policies and programmes aimed at enhancing teaching and learning in Oyo State.
The state government congratulated teachers across the state on the occasion, urging them to continue playing their roles in shaping the future of children and contributing to the development of the state.
The work-free day applies to all teachers in Oyo State and is specifically tied to the celebration of the 2026 NUT Day.
