Former United States President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread to his bones, with his son, Hunter Biden, disclosing that the former president is now battling a painful and debilitating stage of the disease.
Hunter made the disclosure in an interview with the BBC published on Saturday while speaking about his father’s ongoing treatment.
He said Biden’s condition had become increasingly difficult for the family to watch, describing the illness as painful and debilitating.
“I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good, the cancer has spread,” Hunter said.
According to him, the cancer has metastasised to Biden’s bones and spread further.
“It’s very painful… very debilitating. Cancer is really hard. It’s really sad to watch,” he added.
Hunter, Biden’s only surviving son, also described the former president as the centre of their family and praised him as a father, husband and grandfather.
“My dad is, to this day, the centre of our family. He’s the best father, the best husband, the best grandfather,” he said.
Biden announced in May 2025, several months after leaving office, that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
At the time, the former president said doctors expected him to respond to treatment and described his prognosis as good.
“The prognosis is good, we’re working on it,” Biden had said, while thanking people who offered prayers and support during his treatment.
The former president’s health became a major subject of public discussion during the final months of his presidency and his 2024 presidential campaign.
Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race in July 2024 and was subsequently replaced as the Democratic presidential nominee by then-Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost the election to Donald Trump.
Since leaving office, Biden has spent more time with his family while undergoing treatment for the disease.
