The National Association Of Arts Students (NAAS), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Chapter has called on all students under the faculty and beyond to pray for the safe return of the nine ABU students who were kidnapped along Kaduna-Abuja Road on Sunday 15 November 2020.
In a special press release on the abduction of the arts students personally signed by the President, Comrade MUSA, Umar Madamma, NAAS commiserate with the friends and families of the victims and called on all Abusites to reach out to them in solidarity
The 300 Level students of the Department of French, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria were on their way to Lagos for the language immersion programme at the Nigeria French Language Village (NFLV) in Badagry which was earlier interrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic.
One of the students among those on the bus, Dickson Oko, was shot while trying to escape while another nursing mother was left behind because of her baby.
The statement reads, “It is with a heavy heart we write to condemn the unscrupulous act of kidnappers who hold about 9 members of our students from the Department of French, Faculty of Arts, on Sunday 15 November 2020.
“At this point, it is of utmost importance that we do not Iose hope nor despair. We shall do everything within our capacity to ensure the safe release of our fellow NAASITES. Families of the victims have been reached and due efforts are ongoing to ensure their safe release.
“We are hereby calling on all the students under the faculty of Arts and every other student to hold a prayer for the safe return of these students and reach out to the friends and families of the victims.
“However, note that their safety can not be assured without our support and prayers, as such, the need for Everyone of us to pray fervently for their safety cannot be overemphasized.
It was gathered that the kidnappers had reached out to the families of the kidnapped students, demanding N30 million ransom on each.
