Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Olori Basirat Ajibola, wife of the Balogun of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola.
In a condolence message signed by Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor of Oyo State, on October 10, 2026, Governor Makinde described the death of Olori Ajibola as a painful loss to Ibadanland and Oyo State, extending his heartfelt sympathies to Oba Ajibola, the Ajibola family and the entire Ibadan traditional institution.
The late Olori, who was also the Aare Onibon Iyalode of Ibadanland, was described by the governor as a respected matriarch whose death had created a significant void in the royal household and the wider cultural landscape of Ibadanland.
Governor Makinde described Olori Ajibola as a woman of dignity, compassion and quiet influence, noting that her support, wisdom and commitment to the wellbeing of the community contributed to the peace, stability and continuity of Ibadan’s revered traditional institution.
He said her legacy of humility and service would continue to be remembered with deep respect by those who encountered her.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Oyo State, I extend my deepest sympathies to Oba Tajudeen Ajibola and the entire family. Her passing is a painful loss, and we pray that the Almighty grants His Majesty and other members of the family the strength and comfort needed at this difficult time. May her soul rest in perfect peace,” Makinde said.
The governor reaffirmed the solidarity of the Oyo State Government with Ibadanland during the period of mourning, saying the administration stands with the traditional council and the people of the state as they honour the memory of the late Olori.
