The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers following a distress call over a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan, recovering a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at about 9:15 p.m., after the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oluyole Division received information that armed men were attacking residents and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings.
According to the police, a patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene, where officers confronted the suspects and arrested three men identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.
Items recovered during the operation included a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had allegedly robbed a tricycle driver and two passengers, while also injuring other persons during their operations.
The recovered items have been secured as exhibits as investigations continue into the incident and the suspects’ alleged involvement in other criminal activities.
The Command disclosed that the three suspects remain in police custody, adding that the case had been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for discreet and thorough investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal elements.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the police, noting that timely and credible information from members of the public was essential to strengthening security across the state.
