The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, decorated 30 senior officers recently promoted to the ranks of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) and Commissioner of Police (CP), urging them to lead with integrity, humility and professionalism.
The decoration ceremony, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, formally recognised the officers’ elevation, which the IGP described as a reward for years of dedicated and meritorious service to the Nigeria Police Force.
Addressing the newly promoted officers, Disu said their elevation signified not only recognition of past achievements but also a call to greater responsibility in the service of the nation.
He acknowledged the sacrifices inherent in police work, noting that many officers had missed birthdays, family celebrations and other significant personal milestones in the course of their duties.
The IGP also paid tribute to the families of the officers, commending their patience, support and sacrifices throughout their loved ones’ careers.
He charged the officers to discharge their new responsibilities with unwavering integrity and humanity, stressing that leaders who genuinely prioritise the welfare of the personnel under their command would earn their loyalty and commitment.
Disu further urged them to strengthen public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force through exemplary conduct, mentor younger officers and provide leadership worthy of the aspirations of the next generation of police personnel.
He also advised them to wear their new ranks with humility as well as pride, assuring them of the Force’s continued commitment to their welfare.
The newly decorated Assistant Inspectors-General of Police include Obono Nnaghe Itam, Bassey Samuel Ewah, Osagie John Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Daniel Edobor, Isah Danladi Nda, Akaninyene Ifebem Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Bello Rashid Afegbua, Hycenth Azuka Edozie, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.
Also decorated were 17 newly promoted Commissioners of Police: Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle Aremu Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Rita Oyintare Oki, Iya Umar Mohammed, Darma Nuhu Na’aliyu, Nurudeen A. Sabo, Tijani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Lukunche Usman, Akingbade C. Adeyinka, Mohammed Hassan Ahmed, Samuel Erale Etaifo, Taiwo A. Adedeji, Ibrahim Umar D. Zungura and Zainab Audu Pembi.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Agbe Odey; Deputy National Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Zainab Ibrahim; Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, who represented Governor Umar Namadi; Engr. Ken Ekwemigo, representing the Governor of Anambra State; His Royal Highness Clement Ikolo; Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche; and Brigadier-General K.C. Uwa.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, professional development and operational readiness of its personnel, pledging to continue building a police institution that embodies integrity, accountability and effective service to Nigerians.
