A prominent educationist and member of the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan, Hon. Ifeoma Nwankwo, has congratulated Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba on his appointment as the 14th Vice-Chancellor of the institution, describing his emergence as a well-deserved recognition of excellence, leadership and academic distinction.
In a congratulatory message made available to journalists, Nwankwo, who is also co-founder of the Nigeria in Diaspora Forum, expressed confidence in Professor Olapegba’s capacity to provide visionary leadership that would further strengthen the University of Ibadan’s position as one of Africa’s foremost centres of learning and research.
She said the new Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to service and academic excellence had earned him the confidence of the university’s Governing Council and the wider academic community.
“Your dedication to serving the people has earned you this incredible milestone. I am confident that under your guidance, our university will continue to rank among the world’s leading universities,” she said.
Nwankwo described Professor Olapegba’s appointment as a remarkable achievement, noting that he emerged tops among an array of distinguished scholars who contested for the highly coveted position in Nigeria’s premier university.
“This is a milestone achievement. You came first among the best set of brilliant and intellectually accomplished professors who competed for the position of Vice-Chancellor in Nigeria’s first and best university,” she stated.
She also congratulated members of the University of Ibadan community on what she described as a “big catch,” urging staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders to give the new Vice-Chancellor their full support to enable him to advance the institution’s core mandate of teaching, research and community service.
Nwankwo expressed optimism that with collective support and purposeful leadership, Professor Olapegba would consolidate the university’s legacy of academic excellence while positioning it for greater global recognition and impact.
