Actor Chadwick Boseman, star of “Black Panther,”, died Friday after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 43.
He was known for his portrayals of Black icons Jackie Robinson and James Baldwin as well as superhero Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to a statement posted to Twitter, Boseman was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2016.
“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” the statement said. “From “Marshall” to “Da 5 Bloods”, August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy.”
Boseman died at his home, with his wife and family by his side.
