The body of a woman identified as Mrs Iyabo Ogunjehinsin, who was swept away by floodwater at Elemi River along Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has been found after two days of search.
The woman was reportedly swept away by floodwater while at the Elemi River area along Afao Road, prompting a search operation by concerned residents and others who joined efforts to locate her.
After two days of searching, her body was discovered in a swampy area close to the river.
The discovery brought an end to the search operation but deepened the grief surrounding the incident.
The incident has again highlighted the dangers posed by flooding, particularly around rivers, waterways and other areas vulnerable to rising water levels during periods of heavy rainfall.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the recovery of the body are expected to be further established by the relevant authorities.
Residents living in flood-prone areas have also been urged to exercise extreme caution around rivers and waterways, particularly during and after heavy rainfall, when water levels and currents can rise suddenly.
