President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the governorship election as a reaffirmation of the people’s confidence in his leadership.
Tinubu said Adeleke’s victory was also a fitting assurance that democracy would continue to flourish in Nigeria under the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The President, in a statement, disclosed that he had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory in the election.
“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.
He wished the governor success as he prepares to lead the state for another four years, urging him to use his second term to unite the people of Osun irrespective of their political affiliations.
Tinubu said Adeleke must now focus on mobilising the people of the state towards growth, stability and social and economic development.
“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made at the election,” he said.
The President also commended other contestants for the courage and discipline they displayed during the electoral process, saying their participation contributed to the development of Nigeria’s democratic culture.
According to him, the outcome of the election reflected the will of the people of Osun State.
“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture.
“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.
The President also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for their roles in the election.
He praised them for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
Adeleke, who contested the August 15 governorship election on the platform of the Accord, was declared winner after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The result gave Adeleke victory in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs.
