President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments in key education agencies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
In a statement on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the changes are aimed at strengthening agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education.
Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu was appointed Chairman of NECO’s Governing Board, while Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi remains Registrar.
Prof. Babatunde Salako was named Chairman of NBTE, and Prof. Idris Bugaje was earlier reappointed as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.
In the polytechnic sector, Dr Bongfa Binfa was appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, Plateau State, for a single five-year term.
He replaces Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. Binfa was previously Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and had also lectured at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
The President also renewed the appointment of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director-General of the National Library of Nigeria for a final five-year term.
She was first appointed in September 2021 and has led reforms, including the development of digital platforms such as the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.
The statement said the appointments are expected to support ongoing reforms and ensure continuity, including the completion of the National Library headquarters project in Abuja.
