The South West Guild of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has urged the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government to intensify efforts toward the immediate rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the association, Bisi Oladele, and the Publicity Secretary, Remi Oladoye, the group described the abduction as tragic, disturbing, and deeply traumatising.
According to the publishers, the incident has further heightened concerns over the worsening insecurity in Oyo State and across the South-West region.
SWEGOP stated that the kidnapping goes beyond an attack on the victims’ families and affected communities, stressing that it represents a direct threat to the peace, stability, and security of the six Yoruba states in Nigeria.
The association noted that many residents are increasingly losing confidence in the safety of their environment, warning that the growing fear among citizens could have severe psychological and social consequences.
The group also lamented the continued captivity of the victims, saying it exposes the weaknesses in Nigeria’s security architecture and underscores the urgent need for stronger and more proactive security measures nationwide.
While commending security agencies for the ongoing rescue operations and the commitment of security personnel involved, SWEGOP urged the authorities not to relent until all the abducted pupils and teachers are safely reunited with their families.
The association further called on government at all levels to collaborate with relevant stakeholders and community actors capable of contributing meaningfully to the rescue efforts.
SWEGOP also appealed to security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve surveillance, and tighten security across vulnerable communities in order to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the future.
